Website Back-Links - Improve Link popularity

Doing well in the searches is heavily dependent on the number of sites that link back to your site. If a lot of web sites link to yours then this is an indication that your content is good and highly regarded by the on-line community.

Use the tool here to carry out a link popularity test on your web site.

Useful content

One of the easiest ways of getting people to link to your site is to put useful content on it. Once news of this got around, non-competing web sites will want to link to yours to share this with their visitors as a way of enhancing the attractiveness of their own web site.

Links from suppliers

Ask your key suppliers if they would provide links to your site. As well as increasing the number of back-links this will be seen as useful PR by your suppliers.

Entry into free directories

There are many web directories that offer free entry of your company details and web site. Entry into this will not only increase your back-links but will also provide additional direct traffic from users of this web site. A few are listed below.

www.dmoz.com

This directory claims to be the “the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web and is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors”.

www.freeindex.com

This claims to be the “FreeIndex is the fastest growing business information site in the UK” and has a PageRank of 6. Sites are added quickly.

www.jayde.com

This site has a PageRank of 4 and has been around since 1996. It claims to be the “the internet's largest B2B Search Engine and one of the web's oldest business directories”. Site submissions are added fairly quickly.

Summary: Back-Links

Adding you site to free directories is not a guarantee of good search rankings but it will certainly help. When looking for new directories look for ones with a PageRank of 4 or more.
